MiloPrep vs Zahn: CFP review comparison
Zahn organizes review into prestudy, a four-day live class and post-study, with virtual and in-person formats. Compare that concentrated class commitment with flexible subscription study. The class is one stage of its review process, not the entire preparation period.

Zahn’s preparation sequence
The following time estimates are attributed to Zahn’s program overview.
Do not interpret a four-day course as a four-day preparation plan. The provider’s process includes substantial work around the class, which must fit alongside your employment and exam date.
Prestudy

- 100-120 hours suggested
- Interpretation
- Provider estimate, not a Board requirement.
Live class

What the subscription provides
MiloPrep offers video lessons, study materials, practice and progress analysis across the supported exam libraries. Premium is $49/month or $99 every 3 months. Account signup is separate from requesting a free PDF by email.
Compare the cost over your expected access period. Three monthly payments and one quarterly payment are different billing choices; a longer preparation period can change the total. Exam registration, education coursework and third-party class fees are separate.

When to consider Zahn
A concentrated live review can suit a candidate who can protect the class days and complete the surrounding work. A flexible subscription can suit fragmented study blocks, but flexibility still requires a deliberate schedule.
Check the current class fee, travel cost if relevant, access period and included materials for your selected cohort. No single current price was verified from the overview used here, so this page does not invent one or compare an unknown checkout total.
Convert the preparation sequence into calendar commitments
Using the provider’s published ranges, prestudy plus the 34-hour class plus post-study totals approximately 194-234 hours. That is arithmetic using Zahn’s guidance, not an official requirement or an estimate of how much preparation every candidate needs.
Original planning example: reserving eight weeks for 100-120 prestudy hours requires about 12.5-15 hours a week before the class. Reserving four weeks for 60-80 post-study hours requires 15-20 hours a week afterward. The four class days are an additional commitment in between. Check the actual cohort and your appointment before adopting that illustration.
A candidate who can attend the class but cannot protect the surrounding work has not yet established a feasible plan. A flexible subscription also requires scheduled effort, but it does not itself supply the same concentrated class experience. Compare the support you need with the time you can use it.
| Illustrative calendar segment | Workload calculation |
|---|---|
| Eight weeks before class | 100-120 hours ÷ 8 = 12.5-15 hours/week |
| Class period | 34 classroom hours across four consecutive days |
| Four weeks after class | 60-80 hours ÷ 4 = 15-20 hours/week |
Build a complete cohort budget
Use the price for the actual class and cycle, then add travel and accommodation if applicable, time away from work and any optional resources. For a virtual class, confirm the time zone and the environment you will use for four consecutive days. An overview with no verified price cannot support an honest numerical claim about which complete preparation package costs less.
Also record what happens if the exam date changes or another attempt is needed. Obtain the applicable access and repeat terms rather than assuming that a four-day class includes indefinite use. We have not independently verified comparative pass-rate claims; the decision here rests on the documented process and your ability to complete it.
Compare the access period you would actually buy
The subscription calculation below uses current published billing prices and full billing cycles. It assumes the same prices throughout, no discounts or taxes, and cancellation before the next unwanted renewal. Quarterly billing buys a three-month period; this table does not assume a prorated refund for unused months.
Compare the relevant subscription amount with the exact provider package, then account for the difference in services. A class, instructor access, coursework, printed materials and a study subscription are not interchangeable units. The lower price does not establish equivalent coverage or a better learning outcome.

What this comparison can and cannot establish
The table compares publicly described resources and our published product access. We have not completed a controlled learning-outcome comparison, verified comparable pass rates or independently tested every provider feature.
Use the cited provider pages to verify package terms, then use a demo or sample to judge whether the teaching and feedback fit your needs. A feature count is not evidence that a course will produce a better result.
Questions about this topic
Are Zahn’s suggested hours official CFP Board requirements?
No. They are the provider’s suggested preparation commitments for its review process. They do not establish a universal number of hours needed to pass.
Do I need to buy both services?
Start with the gap in your current preparation. Another purchase is useful only if it adds a capability you need and will use, such as instruction, fresh practice, feedback or a scheduled class.
