Your appointment checklist

Use the actual appointment confirmation as the authority for your center. Do not rely on an old online-proctoring article or assume that the identity documents accepted for your application are automatically sufficient on exam day.

Resolve these before travel
  • Identity

    What to verify
Valid government-issued photo ID matching your CCMS and booking name
    If something is wrong
    Contact support before the appointment
  • Arrival

    What to verify
Correct center and local time; arrive at least 30 minutes early
    If something is wrong
Recheck the confirmation and travel buffer
  • Authorization

The correct part and a valid registration
    If something is wrong
Resolve the CCMS record before paying again
  • Personal items

    What to verify
Storage and permitted items in your confirmation
    If something is wrong
Ask the center; do not assume an exception

Run the identity check while there is time to fix it

Compare the ID you intend to carry with your candidate profile and the appointment confirmation. Check the actual document, not a photograph of it stored on your phone. A familiar nickname in one account or a changed surname in another can become an admission problem even if the booking itself succeeded.

The handbook requires a valid acceptable government photo ID with matching candidate details. Correct discrepancies through the official candidate process before travelling. Do not rely on the test-center staff to change your record or accept an alternative on the day. Keep supporting name-change records available when contacting The IIA.

Rehearse the trip and the handoff to the center

Check the exact building, transport, parking and local time in the confirmation. Allow room for a queue and an unfamiliar entrance as well as travel. A plan that reaches the neighborhood thirty minutes early is not necessarily a plan that reaches the check-in desk thirty minutes early.

Use the center’s instructions for belongings, permitted aids and breaks. If you need an approved accommodation, confirm the arrangement before scheduling and verify that the confirmation reflects the appropriate appointment. Do not assume equipment or extra time will be added informally when you arrive.

CCMS and Pearson VUE do different jobs

CCMS manages your program and exam registration. After approval and registration, use its Pearson VUE access to schedule. The handbook states that an authorization lasts 180 days or until your program expires, whichever occurs first. Changing an appointment does not create a new program eligibility period.

Separate an appointment change from an authorization change

Moving a seat and extending exam eligibility are different actions. Before trying to change a booking, compare the proposed date with the authorization and program expiry. A center can have an available seat that falls outside your eligibility. Keep the final confirmation rather than treating an unfinished selection screen as a reservation.

Use the official cancellation and rescheduling rules for your location. If an unexpected disruption prevents attendance, contact the appropriate official support channel and retain the response. A transport delay does not automatically create an approved exception or a fee waiver.

If you arrive late or the center is unavailable

The handbook says late arrival can result in a no-show, and arrival after the appointment time means no admission. Do not plan around a grace period. If disruption is already evident, contact the center or Pearson VUE promptly rather than assuming that arriving eventually preserves the booking.

For a closure, check the official notice and contact information associated with the appointment. Retain the booking number, communication and any case reference. Avoid making a second paid registration until you understand how the original appointment will be handled.

Results and retakes: the current rule

For three-part CIA exams from April 1, 2026, The IIA gives one official result within three weeks rather than an immediate preliminary score. A failed part has a minimum 30-day wait before another attempt. Do not interpret a practice percentage as an official scaled score.

At the workstation: confirm, read and report

Check that the screen identifies the exam you booked before moving into the questions. Read the introductory instructions and required agreement rather than assuming they are part of the content test. If something is wrong with the appointment or workstation, ask the administrator before proceeding.

For a technical problem during the sitting, raise it immediately through the proctor. Explain what the system is doing without photographing or copying question content. Afterward, retain the incident reference and use it if official follow-up is needed. This is more useful than trying to reconstruct the event from memory later.

Leave with records, not assumptions about the result

The current result policy governs when the official outcome arrives. The absence of an immediate preliminary score is not itself a system failure. Check your account contact details and watch the registered email address, including filtered messages.

Do a brief logistics review after the appointment: whether the route worked, whether pacing checkpoints were practical, and whether an incident needs follow-up. Keep that review separate from protected question content. It can improve a later appointment without turning into an unofficial question-sharing exercise.

Match the problem to the next action

Use this decision table before treating an appointment problem as a study problem. The official provider determines admission and booking outcomes.

Appointment exception checklist
  • Account and ID differ

    Useful next action
Resolve the candidate record before attending
    Record to retain
    Support response and corrected confirmation
  • Accommodation not reflected

    Useful next action
Confirm the approved arrangement before the sitting
    Record to retain
    Approval and appointment details
  • Center closure or disruption

    Useful next action
    Follow Pearson VUE’s appointment-specific instructions
    Record to retain
Notice, booking number and case reference
  • Workstation issue

    Useful next action
Report it to the proctor immediately
    Record to retain
    Incident reference, without exam content

Original worked case

Handle a frozen workstation

A question will not load while your exam clock continues.

Reveal the decision and reasoning

Notify the proctor immediately and follow the center’s incident procedure. Keep any incident reference you receive.

An on-site record is more useful than waiting until after departure to report a technical problem. Do not photograph or reproduce exam content.

An editorial teaching example, not an official IIA question or a prediction of exam content.

Common questions

Can I sit the CIA exam from home?
The IIA states that online testing was discontinued May 27, 2025. Use an authorized test center and the current booking instructions.
Can I use this page instead of my appointment confirmation?
No. The confirmation and current candidate rules control your specific identity, arrival and center requirements.
