MiloPrep and CAIA official materials: what each provides
The official digital CAIA curriculum is included with exam registration and defines what can be tested. MiloPrep is an independent supplementary study resource. Start from the official readings, then add practice or explanations where they help.

What registration includes and why it matters
CAIA registration includes access to the official digital curriculum. The association also links curriculum companions, the exam handbook, official samples and required additional materials. Optional print copies are separate. The official curriculum is the controlling reference for what can be tested; an independent summary or question set should not redefine that scope.
Use the companion to organize the assigned outcomes and the readings to learn their content. For Level II, include the current Emerging Topics materials in the plan. A provider can help explain or practise a method, but it cannot establish that an assigned reading may be ignored simply because its own product omits it.
Give official and supplementary resources different jobs
Start by identifying the learning problem. If you do not know what is assigned, use the official companion. If you cannot understand a calculation, an additional worked explanation may help. If you understand it while reading but cannot reproduce it, you need retrieval and new attempts. If timing or response structure is weak, use the official format resources and deliberate rehearsal.
MiloPrep supplies independent lessons, practice and explanations through its public samples and study service. Its free PDFs are MCQ samples, not the official curriculum or a complete written-response course. The right combination depends on the function that is missing, rather than a belief that buying more sources automatically improves preparation.

A complete example of combining resources
Suppose an assigned reading introduces private-fund performance measures. Read the definitions and identify which amounts enter each ratio. Close the source and reconstruct DPI, RVPI and TVPI. If the distinctions are still unclear, use an independent worked example, then return to the official definitions to check consistency.
Now attempt a changed question without the explanation. Write why the denominator is paid-in capital and what residual NAV contributes. Finish by recording the outcome as attempted and scheduling a later retest. The supplementary resource has helped you perform the assigned task without becoming the authority on what the syllabus contains.
Try it before reading the answer
After studying the definitions, you see $6m paid in, $2m distributed and $7m residual NAV. What should the independent practice output contain?

DPI = 2 / 6 ≈ 0.33x; RVPI = 7 / 6 ≈ 1.17x; TVPI = 9 / 6 = 1.50x. Explain that most total value remains unrealized and that the multiples ignore timing. Then compare the terminology and assumptions with the current assigned reading.
Resolve discrepancies before memorizing the answer
When two sources disagree, first check whether they answer the same question and use the same definitions. Gross versus net returns, commitments versus paid-in capital, or annual versus periodic rates can produce different numbers without an arithmetic error. Check the exam year and whether an example intentionally simplifies a real-world structure.
If the discrepancy remains, consult the current official material and its support or errata route as available. Record the unresolved issue rather than silently choosing the answer you prefer. A polished diagram or confident explanation does not make a provider authoritative over CAIA’s current curriculum.

Add cost only for a function you need
Because digital curriculum access is included in registration, compare supplementary products as additional purchases. Optional print, instruction, question practice and review each solve different problems. A learner comfortable with self-study may need a different combination from one who benefits from structured teaching.
MiloPrep’s paid access is $49 monthly or $99 per quarter at current list prices. Three monthly payments total $147; two quarters total $198. These amounts are study-service charges, not CAIA exam fees. Start with public samples or the free PDF to inspect the teaching approach before deciding whether ongoing access fills a real gap.
Check whether your combined setup covers every required task
Maintain one checklist based on the official outcomes. Mark where each outcome is learned, practised and reviewed, and identify gaps in response formats. A large MCQ bank does not by itself provide constructed-response preparation. A directory of selected lessons does not establish coverage of every official outcome.
